Gábor Máté, Dodo 3

Thursday 18 April 2024 at 17:30 at the Liszt Institute, Barvarska steza 8

We cordially invite you to a guided tour through the exhibition “Budapest Dialogues” of the Liszt Institute, which shows the works of two contemporary Hungarian photographers Gabor Máté and Emma Szabó. The guided tour will be led by the artist himself, who will present both series. Máté is also head of the Photography Department at the internationally renowned Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, MOME in Budapest. His works are in dialogue with his student Emma Szabó, who is also the winner of Photon’s Other Worlds 2023 competition. In staged photographs, the artist and Máté address marital and partner relationships from two different perspectives. In the RADIX series, Emma Szabó shows her parents’ relationship and her own intimate family sphere. In contrast, in his series Philemon’s Dream – The Idea of an Eternal Marriage, Gábor Máté looks at marriage and questions its role in today’s society as an outside observer.

The exhibition is part of the expanded exhibition format Author Dialogue, which has been presented at Photon Gallery for several years now, two artists at a time during the regular programme. This year, for the first time, we have presented four photo-artists representing contemporary Hungarian photography in this format – two younger and two older, who have been teachers or mentors to two younger colleagues. You are also cordially invited to visit the exhibition at Photon Gallery, the work of the winner of the Different Worlds 2018 competition, Balázs Deim, and his mentor and legendary representative of progressive photography in Hungary, Imre Drégely.

Participating artists: Imre Drégely, Balazs Deim, Gábor Máté, Emma Szabo
