ALEXANDER VALCHEV: REMINISCENCES

On solo exhibition of Bulgarian artist Alexander Valchev the continued photographic series titled “Reminiscences” will be presented. It was initiated in year 2005 and since then project “Reminiscences” shows reconstructions of famous renaissance masters of painting in the contemporary perspective of photographic media. Artist photographed his friends and acquaintance, praised to the heroic imagery of 15th and 16th century aristocrats, in the staged positions on that basis but in the spirit of current time and its own living space. Each ordinary person might look with dignity, if the person wants to make minimum efforts. People nowadays are not much more different than those who lived 500 years ago. The changes were originated especially because explicit nature of the photography that disable total idealization of individual portrayed person – the human after renaissance belief and faith the most perfect creation of god.
Alexander Valchev, born in 1973, finished MA from sculpture on art academy in Sofia. In his artist work he applies and uses various artistic media, where one of the most significant is assumed by photography. Valchev is believed to be one of the most respectable emerging Bulgarian contemporary artists successfully enforced in international artistic scene. In the year 2007 he was selected as the best artist of international group exhibition titled Photonic Moments, where he received the award of one month residence in Graz, enabled by Photon Gallery and CCN from Graz. In the year 2008 on artistic fair Viennafair he was recognized as one of the ten most perspective artists in Eastern Europe by Die Presse newspaper. In his previous career he participated on several exhibitions and festivals. The solo exhibition in Photon Gallery is his first independent presentation in Slovenia. Alexander Valchev lives and works in Sofia.
