Sandra Vitaljić
Sandra Vitaljić (1972, Pula, Croatia) graduated from BA (1996) and MA (1996) in Photography at FAMU in Prague, where she later also completed a PhD form History and Theory of Photography (2010). Sandra has been teaching at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb for over 10 years and is currently likewise heading the Photography department. Her works can be found in the permanent collection of Modern Art in Zagreb and in the collection of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rijeka. She currently lives and works in Stockholm and in Zagreb.
Sandra positions themes about national identity in the forefront of her work. In her theoretical and curatorial work, she mainly focuses on political conflict and war photography, as well as the ethics of representation in photography. Up until now, she published 3 books: Infertile Grounds, War of Images – Contemporary War Photography, and Up Close and Personal: War in Croatia.
