Anna Tihanyi : Counterbalance
Silent Forces: Anna Tihanyi & Zsuzsanna Kemenesi
11. 3. – 30. 4. 2026
The Photon Gallery, in collaboration with the Liszt Institute Ljubljana, presents a unique exhibition project with simultaneous solo exhibitions by two renowned contemporary Hungarian photographic artists: Silence by Zsuzsanna Kemenesi at the Liszt Institute, and Counterbalance by Anna Tihanyi at the Photon Gallery. The project establishes a subtle dialogue between two related yet different artistic approaches, while also strengthening the platform for presenting contemporary Hungarian photography, considered one of the strongest in the region. Photon has been presenting it to the Slovenian public for many years in collaboration with the Liszt Institute.
Together, the exhibitions create a dialogue between subtlety and introspective power, between attention to small details and exploration of broader family, cultural, and personal structures. In both exhibitions, each object and each image represents a multifaceted meaning that transcends the surface of what is depicted. The project also highlights the richness of contemporary Hungarian photography and the ability of the photographic medium to address universal questions of human experience through intimate experiences and conceptual approaches.
Anna Tihanyi: Counterbalance
The opening will take place on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 7 p.m. at the Photon Gallery.
Anna Tihanyi’s exhibition Counterbalance explores female identity as a dynamic and multifaceted process shaped by memory, family experience, emotional heritage, and archetypal structures. Photographs, installations, collages, and video not only tell personal stories but also reveal the mechanisms that shape subjectivity. The exhibited works intertwine the intimate, the documentary, and the symbolic, presenting femininity as a process constantly moving between vulnerability and protection, belonging and independence—always open and in constant flux.
Zsuzsanna Kemenesi: Silence
The opening will take place on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 5 p.m. at the Liszt Institute Ljubljana.
In Zsuzsanna Kemenesi’s exhibition Silence, a subtle formal strategy creates a tense dialogue between the visible and the invisible. Her photographs focus on small everyday details, corners, cracks, and outlines of objects, revealing the hidden structures of space through the contrast of light and shadow. Silence is not absence, but a state of attention that invites the viewer to pause, observe, and reflect. Each element becomes a bearer of meaning and emotional weight, and the space is transformed into a sensitive field of relationships, where the subtle tension between the visible and the overlooked is revealed as the power of images.
