DK: TESTIMONIES
Strip Core / Forum Ljubljana and Photon – Centre for Contemporary Photography present DK’s solo exhibition Testimonies.
The exhibition Testimonies presents the most recent artistic production of DK, an artist and photographer, who has been active on Ljubljana’s underground art scene for more than 20 years.
DK’s most recent artistic project Testimonies which shows slight creative difference from his present expression will see its premiere appearance with this exhibition. Thus, new works indicate further deliberation of process-based series The Big,conceptualised and realised in a manner of so called staged photography, which started its development already in 1990 to be continued only after 2008. Three big-format photographs commonly titled Testimonies present final result of long term artistic process and bring meaningful allegories of Zeitgeist. Through utter atmosphere of tension and anxiety they express timelessness of such contemporary critical relation towards one’s own surroundings. With thoughtfully constructed images, based on his own intimate impulses, DK questions different aspects of social and political reality: issues of collective and individual identity, inevitable placement of individual into the system’s machinery and, ultimately, possibilities of civilisation communal development.
DK (born in 1970) is a member of Ljubljana-based multimedia artistic and production group Strip Core. His artistic practice mostly revolves around photography which helps him to create specific compositions that through selected visual metaphors provide intimate and socially engaged comments on now and here. Indeed, they are his response to current social and political reality. In his artistic career he exhibited his works in various contexts and venues both locally and internationally. DK lives and works in Ljubljana.
