Janez Korošin
Vanishing
In his long creative journey as an author, he has perpetuated, intentionally or accidentally, immortalized many motifs that require deep exposition and interpretation in order to recognize their connection with the omnipresent concept of passing, death and vanishing. Throughout the history of humanity, culture and art, this theme has perplexed artists, giving them eternal inspiration and a desire to immerse themselves in this unknown world, regardless of the artistic or religious canons of their time. Janez Korošin photographed such motifs intuitively, often unconsciously, finding them mainly in his home environment, which is also his endless source of creativity. The photographs, selected from an extensive corpus of images and not arranged into thematically related projects or series, represent a continuation of his iconographic motif Memento Mori. The exhibition “Vanishing” represents a thematic summary of the author’s work over a long period of time, from the early seventies to the present, and in which he is still very active. The passing and vanishing on various semantic or associative levels is certainly one of the most important content elements of his work. He treats most of the subjects with extreme feelings of melancholy and gloom, be it images of elaborate modern structures, nature and civilization in conflict, or a symbolic representation of local culture and society in a particular time. The project “Vanishing” attempts to present and re-evaluate this extremely important work of the photo-artist Janez Korošin, which has been hidden under other genres, form, technique and motif limitations.
