MATEJ SITAR: FAIRYTALES
In the Fairytales photographic series conceptualised as a work in process, the artist records and constructs particular motifs through various technical, formal and conceptual approaches which – due to their eclectic nature – trigger different substantive associations. With said series, Sitar investigates a thin demarcation line between the so-called staged photography and a snapshot. Both technical aspects are always subordinated to the pre-considered conceptual frame.
Matej Sitar invites the viewer to join him in his intimate or fantasy world which corresponds to the mode of the subject matter depiction and presentation. More intimately underlined motifs employ momentary snapshot photography whilst others with a more irrational and fantastic emphasis were created using the principles of the so-called staged photography and scene direction. Further to images, the viewer is merely served the title of the particular work thus leaving the narrative to the interpretation and deliberation of each individual.
