Peter Koštrun
Present
The exhibited series Present is a part of the long tradition of landscape photography; in this case, however, Koštrun is not interested in the documentary or travelog dimensions of the genre, but he creates from more rational or even conceptual assumptions.
For his starting point, he takes on a romanticized image of a landscape, similar to the painterly symbolism of the likes of the early 19th-century artist Caspar David Friedrich or the early 20th-century pictorialism movement; but in his case, the romantic image of the landscape, often complemented with some subliminal undertones, is taken only as a model which is then subjected to rational processing.
