At a solo exhibition in the Photon Gallery, the Slovenian artist Špela Volčič will present a completed photographic series entitled Panis Nostrum, which is a result of a relation based interaction project with colleagues from various European cultural backgrounds. Her colleagues produced recipes for bread batch and shared them with her, whilst Volčič created four-part portraits of the bread and its originator from two different angles of view under identical conditions of studio environment. The results illustrate the connection between the product and its originator, the psychological characterization of the depicted, as well as a symbolic attachment of the Old Continent to this staple food hidden in a long history and tradition of Europe, which is in the contemporary context remnant of food abundance concentrated in economically developed western society.
