We Love To See You Fail
27. 6. – 2. 8. 2024
The exhibition We Love to See You Fail highlights the beauty of “failed photographs” and
presents them as an essential part of the creative process.
The exhibition includes works by emerging young artists who, during their studies or at the beginning of their careers, inevitably encounter failures in the development of their artistic expression, be it on a technical, conceptual or contextual level. When exploring the technical and expressive potential of the photographic medium, failed attempts are important building blocks for progress in artistic creation and are often responsible for new formal orientations and aesthetic approaches. The exhibition therefore offers a unique look behind the scenes of the formal and experimental exploration of photography with a selection of works that could be described as the “best failures” in this process.
The exhibition project was conceived by the Austrian curator Hanna Teglasy and was originally shown at the Photon Gallery in Vienna in July 2023. A slightly revised and expanded concept will be presented in Ljubljana in collaboration with Photon’s curator, Špela Pipan.
Eight artists from Austria, selected under the direction of the guest curator, will be
joined by up-and-coming young photographers from Slovenia. The works of the selected
artists clearly demostrate original artistic approaches in photography, both on a formal and
conceptual level, and the exhibition as a whole shows the diversity of artistic creative
processes in photography.
