Vojko Flegar, Grafit Punk / Graffiti Punk, 1980

Opening on Monday, 4 December 2023, at 6 pm in the Grand Reception Hall of the Cankarjev dom.

Slovenian Punk and Photography is a large survey exhibition that combines photography with various aspects of the Slovenian punk movement from 1977 to the mid-1980s, as well as the pre-punk and post-punk periods. The exhibition gives an insight into the important role of photography in documenting and expressing the Slovenian punk movement and other subcultural developments of the time.

Photon Gallery was invited to participate in this exhibition project on the basis of our experience with several exhibition projects on the subject of music bands and the presentation of the alternative music scene, such as Laibach Focus (2004), Otroci sreče (Slovenian and Croatian punk scene, 2005), Pankrti. N’č se ne premakne (2007), Prepovedano plakatiranje Zgodba o Buldožerju (2015) and Forbidden Whispers / Laibach and North Korea (2016).

In this context, we advised on the selection of artists and works and contributed financially to the catalogue.Photon’s additional contribution to this major exhibition project is a shorter, two-week accompanying exhibition, which we will be organising at the beginning of next year. The Serbian photographer Dragan Teodorovic will then present his concert photographs at Photon and we will be able to see some of the well-known names of the Yugoslav rock and punk scene in his exhibition.
