Stane Jagodič (1943) has been active in various fields, media and contexts of visual art since the mid-sixties. After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana in 1970, he soon became one of the most active and prominent artists in Yugoslavia, due to his distinguishable artistic expression. In his continuously developing body of work, he has adopted several different concepts of artistic production using various artistic media such as photography, painting, graphics, cartoons, performance, assemblages and object art (installations). Since 1967, Stane Jagodič has been exploring artistic photography and some of its creative derivates like photomontage and photo collage, which are the most significant in his artistic production. Stane Jagodič was a co-founder and conceptual leader of Grupa Junij, active between 1970 and 1985. The group worked as a broad artistic platform that included a number of prominent local and international artists. As an independent artist, Stane Jagodič participated in more than 50 solo and more than 200 group exhibitions worldwide. He lives and works in Ljubljana. To accompany the exhibition Why? at the Photon Gallery, which is on view from November 6, 2025 to January 23, 2026, we have prepared a short offer of limited edition prints from the Stane Jagodič collection. -

Exhibiton catalogue of the project UNADAPTED OBSERVERS. Outsiders and Outlaws. During socialism, the status, function, and aesthetics of photography were remarkably similar across all former socialist countries. In the Central European countries that were part of the socialist bloc, there was also a unique collective organisation in the field of photography, as most photographers worked within the system of photography clubs. However, some photographers have worked outside the system and independently, some because of a particular approach to their work, others because of censorship or even a ban on their work. The exhibition project »Outsiders and Outlaws« focuses on those photographers who stood out from the mainstream of photographic production in the former socialist countries. SALE!Around thirty years ago, major social changes took place in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). During that time, some countries of the former socialist bloc also declared their independence. Slovenia was among them. On the occasion of celebrating thirty years of independence, we in Photon asked ourselves how photography recorded the time before these turning points – in the lives of ordinary people. With this exhibition project, we are not interested in fateful historical events and great personalities, but we want to offer an insight into everyday life and present some contradictions of the social system that built on a utopian vision of the future. To revisit the “family albums” of the former socialist countries, we are presenting some important photographers from the CEE region, who documented life in Eastern Europe in the 1970s and 1980s. All of them, even with different formal and aesthetic starting points, share a subjective and often humorous view of banal and absurd everyday life.

This exhibition catalogue encompasses three editions, of the exhibition project Concrete Dreams, presenting works by 19 photographers. It explores the heritage of industrial development conveyed through the photographic medium. In a narrower sense, the project explores how certain artists in the visual field see this heritage today and how they accept it as material for their artistic projects from the perspective of aesthetic relevance. SALE!The group exhibition at the Photon Gallery presents the activities of the photographic group “Fotogrupa ŠOLT” (Photo Group ŠOLT) on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of its foundation in 1963. It focuses on the period after the merger with Photo Club Ljubljana in 1968, when the group began to operate under the name “Fotogrupa ŠOLT – Ljubljana” (Photo Group ŠOLT – Ljubljana). The exhibition examines the importance of the group’s impact on the photographic scene in Ljubljana and Slovenia and presents its diverse international activities. It also highlights the photographic approaches of the 1960s and 1970s in the choice of motifs and techniques of the exhibited artists. The exhibition catalogue contains a selection of photographs and archival material shown in the exhibition, as well as two longer introductory texts. Presented are the works of seven photographers and members of the group, who were awarded the title of “Master of Photography” by the Photographic Association of Yugoslavia due to their high artistic and technical perfection and their frequent international exhi bitions. These are Oskar Karel Dolenc, Janez Korošin, Tihomir Pinter, Marjan Smerke, Tone Stojko, Jendo Štoviček and Joco Žnidaršič. The exhibition also includes the works of Sonja Zalar Bizjak, the only female representative of the group who received the title of “Master Candidate”. It is important to mention that in the more than thirty years of its existence, the Photo Group ŠOLT group has had a large number of members, among whom are other outstanding Slovenian photographers such as Dragan Arrigler, Marjan Dobovšek, Milan Pajk, Andrej Perko, Janez Pukšič, Lado Jakša, Herman Pivk and Arne Hodalič and many others. The History of European Photography (1900 – 2000) is an international research project spanning the whole of Europe. The project’s main aim was to publish an encyclopaedia in English, divided into three volumes / periods, volume 1: 1900 - 1938, volume 2: 1939-1970, volume 3: 1971 - 2000. Each volume of the encyclopaedia is organized alphabetically by country. A study on the history of photography in each country is written by an expert on photography from that country. Alongside the main studies, each book contains extensive additional material, biographies of mentioned photographers, and timetables marking cultural, socio-political and technical photographic events in each country for a given period. There are be two types of indices in each book - an index of mentioned photographers and an index of other historical names and subjects. The book was published with a print run of 5000 copies per volume, each of the six volumes containing approximately 600 pages.

Bertok deals with the transience of the human body also in his latest series of works, this time, however, from a slightly different perspective. He introduces us to a tortured and exhausted, weary body, bearing the consequences of extreme physical and psychological experience of giving up food. Again, Bertok does not question the personal, psychological, or social motives and circumstances that brought the subject of his depiction into such a state. The artist compares the experience of anorexia with other borderline experiences, be it the so-called SM practices or the survival in the extreme conditions of concentration camps, which he has dealt with in his former projects and photographic series. Thus, the purpose of the project is not to "photodocument" the phenomenon of a disorder or disease, but rather to question the very nature of our physicality, our relationship to the emaciated body and the pain that we presuppose or feel when looking at the proximity of death. NEW!Nataša Skerk (1995) grew up in Trieste where she went to the Slovenian grammar school and then moved to Ljubljana to study design at the Faculty of Design in Trzin. Erasmus + program took her to Spain where she won apprenticeship at the LIStLab Publishing and the Blacklist studio. Currently she works at the LIStLab Publishing in Barcelona and is a contributor to the UTY (us/them/yours) online magazine. “I wanted to connect with people and remind them of the painful feelings. I believe that embracing one's sorrow is the only way to heal.
