• Knjiga umetnika Emine Djukić skozi fotografsko zgodbo predstavlja avtobiografsko refleksijo o iskanju življenske poti in svojega mesta pod soncem. O iskanju reda v kaosu. • In breathtaking, wide-angle photographs, Christoph Grill (b. 1965) documents the post-Perestroika development of the 15 former Soviet countries: Albania, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, the Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Emphasising the empty space around their subjects, Grill’s colour and black-and-white images are distinctly unsentimental portraits of everyday life - children playing amid the ruins of communist utopias, triumphal arches now surrounded by rubble, grass growing in the cracks of military parade grounds, ramshackle dwellings bandaged up with planks of plywood. Not all of these scenes are desolate, however, and cheerier portraits of persons encountered on Grill’s travels, improvising their fun in makeshift swimming pools or along roadsides punctuate the more sober depictions of post-Soviet life. Handsomely clothbound and printed, Short Stalks at Distant Shores records how these states not only underwent renewal but also had to endure economic standstill and regression; it also testifies to the human will to survive amid the bleakest of conditions. Concrete Dreams / Photographing industrial heritage

    Original price was: 20,00 €.Current price is: 14,00 €.
This exhibition catalogue encompasses three editions, of the exhibition project Concrete Dreams, presenting works by 19 photographers. It explores the heritage of industrial development conveyed through the photographic medium. In a narrower sense, the project explores how certain artists in the visual field see this heritage today and how they accept it as material for their artistic projects from the perspective of aesthetic relevance. In a broader sense, it also looks at how the photographic medium today can reflect the broader contexts of a particular place and time, which in post-war 20th century Europe promoted the development of industry and thus of certain architecture, which today is mostly abandoned or torn down or has changed its function. In the book Shaped by the West Dino Kužnik (1986, Slovenia) depicts some of the most famous symbols of the American West, the car, the gas station, the road and also the landscape. This body of work was created between 2016 and 2019 on various solitary road trips. Conceptually, the series stems from the artist’s experience with the Westernization of the culture in Slovenia during its transition from socialism to capitalism, after its independence. Shaped by the West is thus a personal and artistic confrontation with the symbols of Americana from his youth opposed to his adult identity. The predominant narrative revolves around the artist’s desire to move abroad and a nostalgic vision of the American dream contrasted with his reality of living in a foreign country as well as the process of applying for an artist’s visa. Dino has lived in the USA since 2013 and has travelled through Arizona, California, New Mexico, Utah and Nevada in search of his artistic expression. • The beginning of the joint venture of diSTRUKTURA is marked by the Face to Face series of photographs as well as with the photograph, entitled Missing Hill I from 2005. The picture showcases the artists with their backs turned against the viewer while gazing in the devastated landscape in the vicinity of closed and deserted copper mine in Majdanpek, Serbia. This work characterised further creative production of the couple who focused on questioning extended notions of nature nowadays and on redefining landscape genre in the period after the industrial, technological and digital revolutions. Since then diSTRUKTURA has been consistently developing its art works across different artistic media, from photography and painting, to drawing, video and installation.
