The opening of the exhibition Different Worlds coincides with the 20th anniversary of the founding of Photon Gallery and will be part of the wider celebration of this important occasion.

The group exhibition of the 11th edition of the Photon International Competition will present the works of the ten selected finalists in two locations simultaneously: the Photon Gallery and the Šiška Cinema. The competition is aimed at young artists (up to 35 years of age) in the field of contemporary auteur photography from Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).

Through the competition, Photon promotes original photography that demonstrates originality and innovation both in its formal approach and in its choice of themes and concepts. The competition has no set theme, but the final selection often includes work that falls within a wide range of photographic and photography-related practices. In a group exhibition, we present the latest production of contemporary photography from this part of Europe.

The selection of artists and works was decided by a three-member international jury consisting of Vladimir Birgus, a renowned Czech photographer, curator, historian of photography, professor and head of the Institute of Creative Photography at the Silesian University in Opava, Thomas Licek, former director of Eyes on – Month of Photography in Vienna and co-founder of the publishing platform Reflektor, and Maša Žekš, curator working with the exhibition and project space, sales gallery and open studio of DobraVaga, as well as with Kino Šiška – Centre for Urban Culture, which this year is the co-producer of the competitive exhibition.

First prize brings €1,000 support for production and a solo exhibition at Photon Gallery Vienna in 2024.
