Lara Žagar (1993) is a visual artist and photographer. She graduated from the Faculty of Natural sciences and Engineering – Department of Fashion Design (2018) and attends the master’s program at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana, Department of Video and New Media (from 2021). She is the co-founder of the fashion brand Fuga, which focuses on photographic material in its creations. In addition, she creates long-term projects in which she explores the visual experience of the environment. She is interested in different approaches to photography, which she combines with video and sound.
Re-terraforming is a project in the making, which the artist started in 2021. Visual research is based on thinking about the end of the world, both in physical and abstract terms. By manipulating and combining photos of shopping malls into collages that repeat malls’ generic architectural design, the artist misleads the viewer and shows an imaginary, dystopian reality. In the series of photographs, she also introduces subtle images of inanimate organisms, which are presented in the form of a hologram and hint at something extra-terrestrial.
