Rudolf Sikora is one of the most important conceptual artist in Slovakia. The book is divided into several logical units being dominated by the reproduction of works of authors who are listed chronologically. The harmony of the gallery sometimes are break with texts by curators, which also form the bulkheads in the book. Reproductions are designed individually, and each double-page is made with the same principles. However, none of the facing pages are similarly. The whole book is used two columns layout that varies with nuances. The book cover is a strip with photography that overlaps exactly two lines of text on the case. Overwrap, therefore, gives us a free hand in the creation of another visual book. Katalog je izšel ob prvi celoviti pregledni razstavi fotografije Božidarja Jakca v Moderni galeriji leta 2014, katerega umetniški sloves je utemeljen na grafikah, ustvarjalni odgovor pa je že od študentskih let iskal tudi v novih medijih. S poudarkom na kasneje odkritih fotografijah iz obdobja pred drugo svetovno vojno, je razstava sledila kronologiji posnetkov, nastalih na umetnikovih pomembnejših življenjskih postajah, v Pragi (1922-23), Novem mestu (okoli 1923), Parizu (1925), Tuniziji (1925), Ameriki (1929-1931) in med partizani (1943-1945). Gre za prvi dve desetletji Jakčevega posvečanja temu mediju, ko je bil njegov ustvarjalni razvoj na tem področju najsilovitejši in ko je tudi sicer umetniško in osebnostno dozorel. Z vključitvijo nekaterih del z drugih področij njegovega ustvarjanja, risb, grafik, olj in pastelov, ki udejanjajo isto izkustveno stvarnost kot fotografija, je razstava razkrila, da mu je fotografija pomenila pravzaprav nov medij spoznanja. In recent years Roman Bezjak has been intensively studying the theme of Socialist Modernism. He took the last series of photographs in Tashkent, in a "city as a symbol of Soviet modernity and an open-air museum of socialist architecture". In this experimental laboratory of modern architecture, only the countless prefabricated buildings remain in their original condition today. The devastating earthquake of 1966 enabled the emergence of an open-air museum of socialist architecture in Tashkent. Urban planners were able to realize their vision of a new city as a symbol of Soviet modernity in Asia. The architects and building artists virtuously combined constructional requirements with local traditions. Oriental mosaic ornaments decorate the windowless gable facades of the prefabricated buildings. ‘Until Death Do Us Part’ series is the result of two-year photographic project on weddings in Europe, with an accent on cross-cultural couples and certain cultural meanderings, the product of the constant shifts of borders, migrations, globalisation and acculturation. The project represents a visual investigation of the phenomenon of the wedding ceremony and party as one of the crucial anthropological genres, which has for thousands of years played a pivotal role in the ritual life of the human race. In essence, this tradition has remained largely unchanged, despite newly emerging trends and cultural, racial or gender traversing, and in spite of the fact that marriage as an institution is no longer regarded as something so necessarily desirable. Photographs from this series examine the phenomenon of marriage and of wedding ceremony across Europe, often represented as a glamorous pagan ritual paying great attention towards certain fragments of national tradition and folklore of newlyweds and their families. Despite her straight documentary approach and anthropological aims Katarina Radović captures incidental and secondary motifs that often produce metaphysically stressed images with ability to confuse the perception of the seen. In this book Anikó Robitz presents her photographs made between 2007 and 2020. Her works are based on modern and contemporary architecture. When taking pictures she uses only geometrical forms and elements to create her unique and minimalistic photos. While using the chosen details the composition can get far from the original and shows us something completely new. None of the photos were made in the studio but in the real world which surrounds us, in cities where titles refer to. Although Anikó Robitz is a photographer, her pictures are more appropriately approached as works of fine art. They are best understood by those who are familiar with 20th century visual art forms, primarily abstraction, Suprematism, and Minimalism – can be read in four languages in the foreword of the book. Photographer Vladimír Birgus (b. 1954) has long been important on the Czech and European photography scene, where he played several roles, ranging from photographer and columnist to historian and teacher. A number of high-profile projects are connected with his name, in particular the comprehensive exhibitions and books Czech Photographic Avant-garde, 1918–1948 and Czech Photography of the 20th Century, which have, in a fundamental way, helped promote the works of many Czech photographers internationally. He has also helped to gain appreciation for the works of František Drtikol, Jaroslav Rössler, and Eugen Wiškovský. As a photographer, he has gained an international reputation, and has shown his works in dozens of exhibitions at home and abroad, and his photographs are in a number of important collections. Since the late 1970s, he has systematically expanded his series of photographs called Something Unspeakable, in which he organically links elements of socially concerned documentary photography with a subjective view. His photographs are enriched with many visual metaphors and symbols, whose psychological and emotional meanings are underscored by the symbolic use of color photography. His photographs include existential and dramatic scenes from the streets of big European cities against the background of everyday life and slowly moving history.
